40-ounce Thermal Carafe
How much coffee do you get through in the morning? If you’re a full-blown caffeine junky, one cup probably won’t give you enough of a kick to get dressed in the morning. But how about 10 cups? The KBT comes with a large, 40-ounce thermal carafe that can prepare more coffee than your bladder can handle per brewing cycle.
Transparent Glass Tube
When you turn the machine on, water placed inside of the 40-ounce reservoir drops down in a continuous stream toward the copper heating element which then shoots heated water back up through a glass tube.
You may not give the tube a second thought, but being made of glass serves several important purposes—first, flowing water will not drop in temperature as it climbs up through the tube and out of the arm; and second, as soon as it becomes murky, users will know exactly when to descale the tube.
Unique 9-hole Metal Drip Arm
We touched slightly on the drip arm in the previous section, but it is deserving of its own full-length detailing.
The arm is made entirely of metal which, like the glass tube, will not lead to a drop in temperature as the heated water travels through it. At the outlet end of the arm are nine strategically placed holes that spray water in evenly across the filter basket for maximum contact and flavor.
Coffee in 6 Minutes!
How long are you willing to wait for your morning coffee? If you answered “not long,” then we have some excellent news for you! The KBT can prepare a ten-cup pot of coffee in just six minutes at a tongue-scorching 200-plus degrees.
This is due to the extraordinary copper heating element housed beneath the water reservoir. Water is super-heated by to up to 206°F and begins shooting upward just 30 seconds after flipping the on switch.
After waiting a full six minutes for your coffee, the KBT automatically hits the kill switch to stop the copper heating element from burning out.
Also, it’s worth noting that if the carafe isn’t set in place properly, even with the switch turned on, the machine will not begin the brewing process.
3-Setting Brew Basket
Because the KBT has such a large reservoir and carafe, you can make as much or as little coffee as you’d like every cycle. The filter basket with three manual drip settings gives you full control over how long heated water makes contact with the coffee grounds.
For eight to ten cups, select the full-circle mode to allow maximum waterflow through the filter basket and into the carafe. For four to six cups of coffee, slide it to the semi-circle setting. Make sure to slide it to the closed setting when the machine isn’t brewing.
No Programmable Scheduler
You may think that such a high-end coffee brewer would come with all of the bells and whistles, but sadly, this isn’t the case. The KBT does not have a pre-programmable scheduler or a delay setting to automatically brew a 40-ounce pot in the morning.
However, you can prepare the filter, carafe, and coffee grounds beforehand; all your bleary-eyed future self has to do is turn the machine on in the morning.
What happens when you’ve made ten cups of coffee and don’t plan on downing the entire pot? As you can assume by the KBT’s thermal carafe, the option of heating your coffee with a hotplate is unavailable.
In addition, unlike the Technivorm 69212 One-Cup, the KBT does not offer a glass carafe or a thermal one—you’re stuck with what you get. The good news is that thermal carafes can maintain heat for longer compared to glass carafes without an external heating source.
Conclusion: Should I Get the Technivorm 79112 KBT Coffee Brewer?
If your taste buds are sensitive to the taste of a good cup of coffee, then yes, the Technivorm 79112 KBT is definitely an excellent choice.
Every feature found in this 40-ounce coffee maker is fine-tuned to ensure that every drip that passes through the filter basket meets the requirements to produce a golden cup of coffee after each cycle.
