At first glance, the Shark ION P50 – IC162 may appear a bit strange. The thin handle and large dustbin housing is a bit surprising to look at, but there are actually several good reasons why the engineers at Shark designed this vacuum that way. Overall, this is an extremely handy upright that does as advertised. Let’s take a close look at what the IC162 is all about.

Cordless for Maximum Maneuverability

It’s not very often that we come across cordless upright vacuum cleaners, so it’s always exciting when we get a chance to try one out. The Shark ION P50 doesn’t keep you tied down by long, cumbersome power cords, but instead it relies on a battery pack to supply it with power. By being cordless, you’re free to clean anywhere and everywhere you like.

2-Brushroll Motorhead

Two brushrolls are better than one. The ION P50 uses two brushrolls inside of the motorhead that work in tandem at picking up both large and small debris. The height of the brushes is non-adjustable, but it’s not so low that it’ll scratch hardwood, tiled, or laminated floors.

Convertible – Upright, Stick, and Handheld

The unique shape and design of theShark ION P50 IC162 is to support a three-in-one system. This upright converts into a stick and handheld vacuum easily by detaching the housing from the thin shaft. Turning it into a stick vac allows you better reach into tight spaces with the casing hindering movement.

As a handheld unit, you’re able to spot-clean above-ground surfaces by attaching one of the cleaning tools (deep-cleaning motorized pet tool and 18-inch flexi crevice tool, and several others that are sold separately) to the end of the hose and carrying the dustbin housing with the other hand.

Up to 50 Minutes of Runtime

On a full-charge, the 2,900-mAh battery pack can deliver up to 50 minutes of continuous cleaning time. From completely empty to full, it takes a maximum of three hours to fully recharge. By cordless upright standards, this is actually one of the longest-lasting AND quickest-charging batteries we’ve ever seen. Bravo, Shark!

Detachable Battery Pack

The battery of the Stick vacuum can charged either by mounting it onto the charging dock or by plugging the charger into the battery while still attached to the vacuum cleaner. The awesome thing about the included charging dock is that it can charge two batteries simultaneously. The sad thing is that the ION P50 only comes with a single battery back. To increase your worktime, we’d recommend purchasing another battery pack.

Large Dustbin

This upright vacuum cleaner comes with a large 600-mL dustbin that, we’ve found, can hold onto multiple cleaning sessions’ worth of dust before needing to empty out. A large dustbin is always preferable since it reduces the frequency of needing to open the vacuum and toss the contents which can scatter onto your floor.

True HEPA Filter and Anti-Allergen Seal

For those of you who suffer from pet and/or seasonal allergies, we’ve got some excellent news for you! The Shark ION P50 IC162 uses a True HEPA Filter that traps particles as small as 0.3 microns in size up to 99.97% of the time.

That’s small enough to trap dust mites, their waste and eggs, dander, pollen, and most specks of dust, and it prevents them from flying out of the vacuum’s exhaust port and going airborne. But that’s not all! The stick vacuum is also made with Anti-Allergen Seal that stops dust particles from seeping their way out of the device. Cleaner floors, cleaner air, cleaner home!

Easy-to-Clean Brushroll

One of the biggest hassles about cleaning up after pets and even humans is dealing with strands of fallen hair. the Shark does not have an anti-tangle brush so long hair does tend to get stuck in the brushrolls. However, it’s extremely easy to clean – by lifting the motorhead up, you can remove tangled hair by going at it with a pair of scissors. Be sure to do above a sink or trash bin so hair and fur doesn’t fall onto your floors.

No Onboard Storage

Despite coming with cleaning attachments, the ION P50 doesn’t come with a specialized compartment that holds onto the attachments when not in use. This isn’t the biggest of deals since the dustbin housing needs to detach when converting from upright to stick or handheld unit, but we do need to be mindful of where we place it.
