Review of the Miele Complete C3 Marin Canister Vacuum

In the wide world of vacuum cleaners, canisters sit at the top as the generally most powerful type of vac despite uprights being the more popular option. But with great power comes great versatility—most canister vacs, especially those made by Miele, will provide you the flexibility needed to clean floors, ceilings, and virtually any surface in between that you can think of.

Miele Complete C3 Marin Canister Vacuum

Today, we’re going to review one of Miele’s more high-end models: the Complete C3 Marin Canister Vacuum. Though admittedly a heavy investment, if you’re serious about the cleanliness of your home’s floors, then it’s worth every penny. Read what the Miele Complete C3 Marin has to offer down below.

Vacuuming Perfection

The C3 comes equipped with a Miele-made 1,200W Vortex Motor that delivers an astounding 17 kPa of suction. With this much power, extracting the tiniest debris hidden in long rug fibers is completely achievable, and we don’t even need to talk about how fantastically it works at cleaning floor boards and any cracks in between.

Parquet Floor Brush and Electrobrush

The C3 comes with two main vacuum heads—the Parquet Floor Brush for bare floors and the 236 Electrobrush. The latter is a pretty well-made vacuum head that comes with an adjustable brushroll that makes it useable on all floor types without causing damage. The brushroll itself is driven by the Vortex Motor to ensure deep-cleaning with every sweep.

Six Power Settings

The versatility of the C3 not only comes from its wide assortment of cleaning tools (more on this in a bit) but also the six different suction delivery settings. When you need the most power for carpets, switching to max power will give you the best results.

When you’re cleaning curtains, the lowest setting will ensure perfect performance without pulling the curtains off their rods. The images for each power setting are pretty unclear, but the included paperwork will tell you everything you need to know.

Self-Adjusting Power Output

One of the more fantastic features of the C3 is its sensors that automatically detect whether the vacuum head is cleaning carpets or bare floors. As users transition back and forth, the sensor will switch suction power accordingly to ensure fuss-free, damage-free, effortless cleaning.

Alternatively, you can use the + and – buttons switch between cleaning modes depending on what surface you’re cleaning (useful for above-ground spot-cleaning).

4-1/2-liter HEPA-lined Filter Bags

Everything about this unit is oversized, from its motor and output power to the dust collection bag. Each bag can hold up to 4-1/2 liters of dust, hair, and debris before needing to be tied up and tossed away.

Bets of all, each bag is lined with a HEPA filter bag to ensure nothing inside has the slightest chance of leaking out—a prime feature that we wished more canister vacuum manufacturers would imitate. Sadly, most local retailers don’t carry replacement bags made for Miele canisters.

Auto Cord Retract

To make cleanup just as easy as cleaning with the C3, this canister vac comes with an auto cord retract feature that sends the 21-foot power cord reeling back into the unit. No more fumbling with long cables and tiring wrapping around hooks. Instead, all you need to do is press the button and presto! The cord is gone!

Oversized Foot-Controlled Buttons

For our lovely readers who have a difficult time leaning down to press buttons, the C3’s oversized buttons are a feature that you’ll undoubtedly appreciate. The aforementioned + and – buttons, as well as the on/off and power cord retract buttons, are all operable with a simple tap of the foot.

We use the term “simple” loosely here since, by some customer reports, it can take a bit of power to get the buttons to do what they’re supposed to.

Miele’s Longevity

How long do you expect a vacuum cleaner to run? You’d be lucky to get four or five years out of the traditional canister at most, but Miele’s products are designed to work for beyond the decade mark. Numerous customers have reported that their Miele vacuums from 15 to 20 years ago are still in use to this very day. Many have even inherited their Miele from their parents with very few issues.
