Germans are known to produce the best machines. This is also the case for vacuum cleaners. The Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction and the Miele C1 Classic are among the best vacuum cleaners to have descended from Deutschland. They are cheaper alternatives to the high end and more expensive Miele canister models, while still offering the same high-class performance.
It features lightweight compact designs and high power from the same vortex motor that the two canister vacuum cleaners are so much alike. So, what are the similarities and differences between the two “German Machines” from Miele?
High suction power performance
Both product models utilize the Vortex motor which is also manufactured by Miele. The motor offers high-quality performance producing 140 cubic feet of airflow at the intake per minute. The 1200-watt vortex motor works efficiently at all cleaning levels and produces less noise.
As a result, the two models are among the quietest vacuum cleaners. In addition, the two vacs also feature six suction control settings that are changed by a rotary dial located in the middle of the canister body.
Multi-purpose cleaner with extra accessory tools
The Miele Pure Suction and the Classic C1 are designed to provide an optimal cleaning experience for hard floors and low-pile carpets. They both contain a footswitch on the cleaner head, which allows changing from hard floor to carpet cleaning mode easily.
The two models also come with two floorheads, the SBD285-3 Pure Suction floorhead, which is used for cleaning hard floors and low-pile carpets; and the SBB Parquet-3 pure suction floorhead, which is designed with soft, high-quality bristles and is ideal for tiled and textured floors.
In addition, they also feature three more cleaning accessories that are nicely attached to a VarioClip on the hose for easy access. They include a dusting brush, a crevice tool, and an upholstery tool. These are used to clean higher or hard-to-reach surfaces and upholstery.
Air filtration
Another feature shared by both units is Miele’s AirClean filtration system. The system consists of a genuine Miele AirClean dustbag, a motor protection filter, and an AirClean exhaust filter. The dustbag used in both units is the AirClean 3D Efficiency FJM and has a capacity of 3.5 liters.
This type of dust bag is charged electrostatically to trap moving dust particles. It also has a self-sealing collar that prevents dust from spewing back into the air when removed from the canister.
The motor protection filter traps and prevents dust and debris from building up in the motor, increasing its lifespan and ensuring that it performs at an optimal level. The AirClean exhaust filter has three layers and is used to trap all types of dust, including 0.5 micron-sized particulates.
The three filters work in harmony to keep more than 99.9% of dust and particulates from the air. Both models also allow you to upgrade the exhaust filter to an Active AirClean filter, which uses activated carbon that expels unpleasant odor. They are also compatible with various HEPA filters.

Miele Pure Suction versus Miele Classic C1
Compact design with effortless mobility
The Miele Pure Suction and the Classic C1 have a compact and lightweight design, weighing slightly above 14 lbs. They have three rubber wheels at the bottom that can turn 360 degrees, making the two canister vacuums very stable and easy to maneuver.
The floorheads also contain rubber wheels and metal sole plates for easy movement across various surfaces. The telescopic stainless steel wand in both models is adjustable to different sizes for comfortable handling while the power cord is retractable and coils back into place with a simple press of the button.
The power cords are 21 feet, while the hose lengths are 5.5 feet. When you add the total length of the telescopic wand to the hose and power cord, the two canisters have a maximum cleaning radius of approximately 29.5 feet. Another important aspect is that the cleaning heads and wands can be assembled easily by clicking them into place and disassembling them with a simple button pressing.

As you can see, there are no notable differences between the two Miele models, aside from their colors. As for performance, the Miele Pure Suction and the Classic C1 are one and the same.
They both retail at the same price and come with a 7-year warranty for the motor and body. It is worth noting, however, that the two units are designed for bare floors and low pile carpets, but slightly inefficient on medium and deep pile carpets.
