Vacuum cleaners may not seem all that exciting, but that’s going to change after you take a look at the Kenmore Elite 33150. This bagged upright is like no other in the sense that it comes with a ton of different adjustable features, a super-long power cord for maximum reach, and even uses HEPA bags with no risk of leaking. If you have pets, then you’ll absolutely love everything about the Elite 33150.
Triple-Motor Action
One of the main features of the 33150 is the triple-motor setup. The extra motor provides an additional 20% increase in suction pressure compared to traditional 2-motor uprights. Essentially, the 33150 is designed to handle the shaggiest rugs and carpets you have at home by suctioning dirt, dust, and debris straight from the carpet fibers’ roots.
True HEPA Filter
What makes the 33150 such a great upright is the True HEPA Filter installed in the unit. HEPA filters trap up to 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns in size from escaping from the vacuum cleaner, making the exhaust air coming out of the vacuum cleaner as debris-free as possible.
HEPA Bags
This upright’s bags are also protected with HEPA filters. This adds a second layer of defense by keeping the bag’s contents from leaking out and making it onto your floors. You can never have enough HEPA protection when it comes to vacuuming, especially for those that suffer from pet and seasonal allergies.
Wide Cleaning Path
The main vacuum head on the 33150 is 12-3/4 inches wide. It’s sufficiently wide that it requires significantly fewer passes to clear an entire room, but it’s not so wide that it inhibits maneuverability in between furniture. If you need to do a bit of spot-cleaning, you can always rely on the extendable hose and cleaning attachments.
35-foot Power Cord
The 33150’s 35-foot long power cord makes vacuuming less of a hassle. In most cases, a long cord can give you enough reach to clean multiple rooms without unplugging and re-plugging the power cord. You can always connect the 33150 to an extension cord to increase your reach effortlessly.
Vacuum Cleaner Attachments
Like most upright vacuum cleaners, the 33150 comes with a long extendable hose (10 feet) that connects to multiple types of vacuum cleaner attachments. In the box, you’ll find a crevice tool for cleaning in between soft upholstery cushioning, a dusting brush for spot-cleaning above-ground surfaces, and a unique Pet HandiMate brush that uses plastic “teeth” to remove fallen pet and human hair from soft surfaces.
5-Setting Adjustable Brush Heights
On the main vacuum head, you’ll find a dial that lets you adjust the height of the brushes. This feature is great for those whose homes don’t just have one type of flooring. Adjusting the height of the brushes ensures that they never damage smooth floors (hardwood, tiles, laminate) and also have enough reach to pull out any embedded dirt from long carpet fibers. It can be a pain having to constantly adjust the height of the brushroll, but it’s worth the time and effort in order to clean your floors as thoroughly as possible.
Infrared Dirt Sensor
But the most unique feature of the 33150 is the infrared dirt sensor. On the vacuum head is an LED light indicator that turns on when the vacuum detects dirt. The sensors ensure that you pick up most, if not all, of the dirt on your floors by alerting you of dirty spots that may be invisible to the naked eye.
However, we found that the sensor isn’t entirely reliable, and it typically remains on even after several passes with the vacuum head. This could either mean A) the vacuum is doing a poor job at picking dirt off the floors, or B) the sensors may be faulty. Hopefully it’s the latter.
Problem with the Agitator
An agitator is a brushroll that serves to knock embedded dirt out of carpet fibers. After releasing the dirt, all the vacuum needs to do is suction it up. The problem with the agitator on the 33150 is that it isn’t exactly durable. We and several customers found that in the beginning, it works like a charm, but after a while the agitator deteriorates too rapidly for our liking. In the end, the 33150 relies solely on suction power. Good thing it sucks (that’s a good thing).
Verdict
As we mentioned in the beginning of the article, the Kenmore 33150 Canister Vacuum really is a magnificent cleaning machine. Apart from the flimsy agitator, there’s absolutely nothing about the vacuum cleaner that we would change. For those of you who have pets or deal with long strands of hair regularly, the Kenmore 33150 can be the perfect vacuum cleaner for your home.
