InvisiClean Sensa Air Purifier Review (IC-5120)

Air purifiers are an essential home appliance to have in this day and age. The problem of air pollution doesn’t just exist in large cities – if your home is located near a busy road, or if you suffer from seasonal allergies, there’s no reason not to own an air purifier.

And the InvisiClean Sensa Air Purifier (IC-5120) is worth considering if you value perfectly breathable air in moderately sized indoor spaces.

319-square-foot Cleaning Range

One of the first things to keep in mind when shopping for an air purifier is how far and wide it can clean. The IC-5120 is designed to handle rooms as large as 319 square feet – the perfect size for most living rooms, kitchens, and basement media rooms.

170-CFM CADR

The higher the CADR rating of an air purifier, the better it will be at removing microscopic particles from the air. The IC-5120 has a maximum CADR rating in all three areas (smoke, dust, and pollen) of 170 CFM.

This isn’t bad per se, but it is shockingly low. This means that although the IC-5120 works in rooms of more than 300 square feet, you may want to place it in rooms of less than 250 square feet for optimal purification.

3-Stage Filtration

A 3-stage filtration is pretty much the norm for any floor air purifier model. The IC-5120 starts its cleaning air purifying cycle with a washable pre-filter that traps large, visible airborne particles.

Next, it passes through an activated carbon mesh that traps and eliminates odor from tobacco, cooking experiment/failures, and VOCs. Finally, the air is passed through a medical-grade True HEPA Filter that ensnares microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns up to 99.97% of the time. The IC-5120 has ozone-producing ionizer or UV-C germicidal lasers.

Filter Indicator

The ensure that the quality of indoor air is as breathable as possible, the IC-5120 features a filter indicator that estimates how clogged the filters are and when it’s time to swap them out for a fresh one.

The key word here is “estimates,” and you’ll also need to take a sneak-peek at the filters to determine whether they need to be changed. Inside the box, you’ll find one of each activated carbon and HEPA filter. Replacements are readily available online.

2, 4, 8-hour Timer

If you don’t feel like babysitting the air purifier all day long, you can activate the timer feature by setting it up to run for two, four, or eight hours continuously.

As soon as the time limit is reached, the IC-5120 will automatically shut off and await further instructions. Still, this requires a bit of supervision since it can turn off when you need it, which is why you may appreciate the air-quality sensor.

Air-Quality Sensor and Auto Cleaning Mode

When activated, this sensor is constantly measuring the pollution level of the room. As soon as it reaches certain intensity, the IC-5120 will automatically turn on and choose one of its six cleaning modes in order to efficiently remove pollutants.

When the device has deemed the air to be thoroughly cleaned, it’ll power down and switch to standby mode while its sensor does its thing. Auto cleaning mode completely eliminates the need to tinker around with the buttons on the control panel.

Low-EMF DC Motor

If you’ve ever owned an air purifier before, you may have become shocked and disappointed by how expensive it is to operate and maintain. Luckily, this isn’t the case with the IC-5120. According to InvisiClean, the DC motor uses 82% less power than many of their other models, potentially saving you hundreds of dollars annually.

And if you’re worried about what electromagnetic fields can do to you and your loved ones, you’ll definitely love the low-EMF motor. Less oxidative stress means better overall health.

31 to 60-decibel Noise Output

Last but not least is the IC-5120’s noise output level. From the lowest fan speed to Turbo mode, this air purifier generates anywhere between 31 to 60 decibels, or roughly the same noise as normal conversation volume at home.

You’ll only need to use Turbo mode in extreme conditions, and at night, activating the lowest fan speed will produce a soft drone of white noise that gently lulls you to sleep.

Verdict

Overall, the InvisiClean Sensa IC-5120 is an excellent air purifier for small and medium-sized rooms. Although it has a maximum reach of 319 square feet, I’d recommend sticking this unit in rooms smaller than 250 square feet to make the best use out of its low CADR. The best thing about this device is the Air-Quality Sensor that does the thinking for you.

By turning on Auto Cleaning Mode, all you need to do is set it and forget it. Oh, and don’t forget to check the filter every now and then.

If you have a large space you want to remove irritants from, We recommend the Airmega 400. All of Coway air purifiers do an excellent job of attacking indoor pollutants, and we highly recommend any of them.
The Levoit Vista 200 air purifier has some strong suits, but in our opinion it falls short of carving out a meaningful niche for itself. Its ideal use would be in a small bedroom occupied by someone who is sensitive to noise.
With high end air cleaning performance, the Honeywell HPA300 is the perfect combination of power and finesse. It cleared airborne particulates out of a smokey testing room faster than most air purifiers.
