Carpets are one of the hardest things to maintain. They can really tie a room together, but urine stains can lead you down a path of mystery, misery, and quite possibly the loss of a toe.
But if you have a carpet cleaner, you won’t have to go there—all of the hard is made easy by this handy machine.
The Hoover name holds a lot of weight in the carpet cleaning game so whenever they release a model into the market, you know it’s going to impress. Today, we’re going to take a look at once such model—the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Cleaner FH50150, a heavy-duty beast with all of the features needed to ensure perfectly cleaned carpets in a jiffy.
Keep reading to see what makes this carpet cleaner a must-have.
SpinScrub Brush System
A quick look at the bottom of the FH50150 and you’ll find four stiff-bristle brushes. These are part of the SpinScrub Brush System where the brushes rotate at high speeds to extract debris while aggressively yet non-damagingly cleaning your carpet’s fibers.

The vacuum head works in both forward and backward motions so there’s no need to rotate 180° after each pass.
However, the brushes can stop rotating altogether if the screw comes loose or rusts after extensive use. The screws are not stainless-steel so you’ll need to dry the brushes thoroughly after each use. This can be done simply be lifting and removing the plastic nozzle cover.
It’s also important to note that the brushes are vacuum-driven, not motor-driven, so they can bog down when moving too quickly.
This, however, can be overcome by taking it slowly and allowing the brushes to work thoroughly on a spot before moving on.
Oversized Everything
At first glance, the FH50150 might seem like a bulky tool. Because it is. There’s absolutely nothing small about the FH50150, from its oversized 1-gallon capacity tanks to its wide, 12-inch vacuum head. But the best part is that despite being so large, it has a dry-weight of only 19 pounds—about the same as a regular upright vacuum cleaner.

Needless to say, transporting this unit up and down steps is hardly a challenge, let along moving it horizontally across wide floors.
Auto Solution Mixing
One of the FH50150’s most unique features is its auto solution mixing tank. In the clean water tank, all you need to do is fill it up with water and pour in a few tablespoons of your carpet detergent of choice. It then creates the optimal water-to-detergent ratio for when you want to was with your cleaning mix.
The FH50150 also has a neat rinse-only feature that introduces detergent-less water onto your carpets for quick, chemical-free cleaning.
Soap On-Demand
Like most upright carpet cleaners, the FH50150 comes with a trigger on the handle that allows you to apply as much soap as you need for certain messes. This handy little feature prevents wastage by giving you full-control.

However, it’s easy to go overboard, but by switching between rinsing and cleaning mode, you really shouldn’t have a huge problem.
Carpet Heater for Quick Drying
But that’s not all it has! The FH50150, like many of its sister models, comes with an on-board heater that evaporates a lot of the water in saturated carpet fibers. The result is faster cleaning with drier carpets after only a couple of passes.
On average, carpets will only require around 30 minutes to feel as dry as a bone.
Standard Attachment Set
The only “standard” feature of the FH50150 is the assortment of cleaning tools it comes with. Upon opening the box, you’ll find three different tools: a triangular stair tool, a long crevice tool, and a simple upholstery tool. The attachments are well-built and should last for several years with care (store them in the mesh bag when not in use to avoid misplacing them).

The tools attach to the end of a super-long, 8-foot hose that gives you tons of unrestrained movement when spot-cleaning.
Leaky Tank
One thing users noticed was a leaky dirty water tank. For the lucky few, leakage occurred after 12 months of use (still under warranty) while others’ FH50150s leaked right out of the box.
Thankfully, Hoover has service centers in many large cities, but even then, it can take some time to get replacement tanks or replace the entire unit altogether.
