Portable air conditioners are arguably the best home-cooling device for those without a centralized AC system. Sure, there are ductless air conditioners that work exceptionally well during the summer, but if you’d like to take your air conditioner with you from room to room, portable is the way to go.
The Honeywell name has held up pretty well in the past mainly due to their amazing line of portable air conditioners. One of their models, the MM14CCS, continues to impress; it’s an absolute beast of a cooling machine that’s easy to install and even easier to operate. Keep reading to find out how well-built the Honeywell MM14CCS truly is.
14,000-BTU Cooling Capacity
When looking at potential portable air conditioners to take home with you, you’ll need to determine beforehand how large of a room you plan on cooling.
Portable air conditioners are great but also notorious for having more limited cooling ranges than their ductless counterparts. However, for small- to medium-sized rooms, this Honeywell model is a viable choice.

The MM14CCS is rated to work optimally in rooms of anywhere 550 and 700 square feet. This is enough reach to cool down bedrooms, kitchens, home office rooms, server rooms, and most of a basement hobby room.
Easy to Move and Transport
The main criteria that every portable air conditioner should meet is, obviously, portability. This means looking at the weight, profile, and footprint of the model.
In the case of the MM14CCS, all three of these departments are clearly within the realm of portability. The MM14CCS weighs a little under 75 pounds, stands only 34 inches high, and has a 20 x 16-inch footprint.
What’s odd is that the Honeywell does not have any handles to make lifting easier. Moving this 75-ish-pound unit up and down stairs is almost impossible to do without a second or even third pair of hands. However, lateral movement couldn’t be easier thanks to the four casters that reside underneath each corner of the base.

Washable Single Filter
Since it needs to draw air from the outdoors to cool a room, it only makes sense that any floating particles (pollen, dust, and air pollution) get suctioned up in the process.
Good thing the MM14CCS is equipped with a fine-mesh filter that traps most of any harmful pollutants trying to sneak their way indoors. The filter is located at the back of the unit and can be easily pulled out for washing and drying.
Dehumidifying Function
It’s not just heat that creates an uncomfortable, borderline unlivable situation at home, but humidity also plays a tremendous role. The problem of excessive relative humidity levels at home can be solved by turning on the dehumidifying feature on the MM14CCS that removes up to 86 pints of moisture daily.

Sadly, the MM14CCS does not come with a continuous drainage hose (sold separately) so make sure to keep an eye on the water tank so it doesn’t overflow (no auto-shutoff, either).
Programmable Timer up to 24 Hours
If you’ve set up the device to run at a comfortable temperature and would like it to shut off on its own, all you need to do is set up the programmable timer. The MM14CCS can run for up to 24 hours nonstop before the motor shuts off automatically. The timer function will definitely help you cut down energy costs if set up correctly.

Comprehensive Controls
Every programmable feature—temperature, timer, dehumidifier, fan-only—can be selected with a press of a button. The MM14CCS’ control panel is located on the face of the unit and has a bright blue LED display showing your selected temperature and which mode is currently running. The light turns off after a minute so feel free to use this portable AC at night.
There’s even a handy little RF remote that comes with the unit (no AAA batteries, though). We would have preferred if this unit had smartphone compatibility since the handy little remote can and will go missing from time to time.

Noise Output Not the Worst
The one thing that portable AC units are famous for is their nonstop droning at loud, annoying volumes. Although this isn’t the case with the MM14CCS, it’s not exactly whisper-quiet. On its lowest fan speed, it produces about 55 decibels, and the compressor turning on and off might jolt you awake at night.

If you’re in need of a portable cooling system to take with you to every room (on one floor), then the Honeywell MM14CCS is worth considering.
It cools down rooms of up to 700 square feet in hardly any time at all, and it even has a dehumidifier function to get rid of excess sweat-inducing moisture. Does it get any better than that?
