If you’re looking for a robotic pool cleaner, there’s no better place to start than checking out the awesome Dolphin series by Maytronics. This brand has been on top of the game for several decades, and with each new model entering the market, they’re going to remain on top for a long, long time.
One of their newer models, the Dolphin Proteus DX5i, is packed with top-notch features that will give your pool that extra sparkle after a quick scrub. This ultra-convenient robot offers hands-free, worry-free, high-quality cleaning every time it kicks into gear.
Let’s take a closer look at what this blue and white robot has in store for us.
Pool Cleaning Performance
The DX5i features a single active front brush roll and a standard brush in the back. The two work in tandem to release embedded dirt and algae stains on the lining of your pool, drawing them into the suction inlet where the filter handles the rest.

With a motor that moves up to 5,000 gallons of water every hour, your pool’s water will be as crystal-clear as ever.
Furthermore, it comes with HyperGrip tracks and shoots high-pressure jets backward to keep it afloat for waterline scrubbing.
From the surface of the pool’s water to the base, there’s no part of the pool that is left untouched and unclean after the DX5i has had its say.
Single Ultra-Fine Filter Basket
The way the DX5i works is by intaking a ton of water every second it spends beneath the surface and passing it through an oversized basket lined with ultra-fine filters. These filters are designed to trap debris as small as 50 microns in size.
A latch on top of the robot offers quick access to the basket and filters for easy maintenance. Like every top-loaded Dolphin, clearing the filter and basket of collected debris could not be easier.
A simple spray with a garden hose will clear them right up, preparing the robot for numerous uninterrupted cleaning sessions in the future.
CleverClean Technology
A robotic pool cleaner is only as good as its navigation software. Worry not, dear reader, for every modern Dolphin model has this in spades, including the DX5i.

This robot uses CleverClean Technology, Maytronics’ impressive piece of navigation technology, to scan and create a digital map of its surroundings (i.e. your pool) which it then uses to create the best, most time-efficient cleaning path.
But just like every other Dolphin model with CleverClean, the DX5i is virtually incapable of cleaning stairs due to the sudden change of vertical and horizontal terrain. At best, it’ll flop around in the water in an attempt to clean the steps.
It’s best to leave pool stair scrubbing chores to your children.
Two Cleaning Speeds
The DX5i has two operating speeds: standard and quick. Standard mode has the DX5i scrub and cleans for 2-1/2 hours straight to ensure every square inch of your pool’s lining is squeaky clean. In quick mode, the robot spends only 60 minutes scrubbing and cleaning your pool’s water.

Depending on the size of your pool, the DX5i may not be able to promise thorough cleaning, but if your swimming pool needs a quick scrub before an impromptu pool party, you’ll be glad this feature is available.
60-foot Anti-Tangle Swivel Cord
One of the ways Maytronics ensures their robots stay on top of the robotic pool cleaner game is by fixing each of their bots with a 360° swivel cord. It allows the robot to twist, turn, and loop-de-loop underwater without pulling or tearing at the sensitive copper wires inside.
The DX5i’s swivel cord measures 60 feet long, offering uninhibited movement in in-ground pools of up to 50 feet in length.
Bluetooth Connectivity
The comprehensive controller module with the DX5i is a great way to start and stop the robot, but that’s not the only way to control it. After downloading the Dolphin app for your smartphone, you can connect your gadget to the DX5i via Bluetooth.
Sadly, you can’t configure the weekly scheduler using the app (only with the controller module), but you can manually steer the robot around your pool to scrub any places it may have missed.
Verdict: Should I Get the Dolphin Proteus DX5i Robotic Vacuum Cleaner?
If you have an in-ground pool that measures up to 50 feet in length, and you’re also looking for a reliable robotic pool cleaner to handle most of the scrubbing, then the Dolphin DX5i is an excellent option.
It’s a super-convenient robot that scrubs pool linings and waterlines almost to perfection. You can’t go wrong with the Dolphin DX5i!
