Most people dream of having their own swimming pool in their backyard. Afternoon dips during lazy summer afternoons with family and friends may sound appealing until you remember that at the end of the day, nobody’s left to help you clean the pool. That’s why pool owners should seriously consider investing in a robotic pool cleaner.
There’s one particular robotic pool cleaner that’s worth looking at: the Dolphin Nautilus CC (not to be mistaken with the Nautilus CC Supreme). The Nautilus CC does everything you’d expect from a Maytronics-made robot despite being a simple, entry-level unit.
Let’s take a closer look at the Nautilus CC to determine whether your pool would benefit from having this robot patrolling its base and walls.
In terms of how the Nautilus CC cleans, it’s practically at the same level as other models belonging to the Dolphin family. Considering this is an entry-level model, this statement actually means a whole lot so first-time robotic pool cleaner buys should definitely consider this model.
It comes with one oversized high-speed brushroll that firmly presses against the surface of the pool lining to remove embedded dirt, grime, and algae. The brushroll then pulls the debris in toward the suction inlet where the water is filtered and thoroughly cleaned.
Water passes through the robot at a rate of over 70 GPM, ensuring proper filtration and circulation throughout the cleaning cycle.
Although it does come with grippy tracks and jets that thrust it forward, the Nautilus CC in unable to scale walls to perform waterline scrubbing. This is one of the only instances where manual scrubbing on your part is needed.
CleverClean Navigation software is not unique to the Nautilus CC; in fact, most modern Dolphin models use this technology to navigate their way through the underwater terrain of your pool. CleverClean utilizes sensors that develop a digital layout of your pool’s lining to create the most efficient clearing path. There’s no needless random-style patrolling involved.
Thanks to CleverClean, the Nautilus CC is able to touch more of your pool’s lining each time it commences its cleaning cycle.
However, navigation software has yet to be perfected, and the Nautilus may require two or more cycles before leaving your pool as spotless as you’d like.
Better Movement with 360° Swivel Cord
The control module connects to the robot via a long 360° swivel cord that does not hamper the Nautilus CC’s movement at all. In fact, because it can rotate all the way around, the Nautilus CC is able to twist and turn as it wishes without destroying the sensitive inner copper wires.
The cord supports free movement in pools of up to 33 feet in length.
Single Top-Loaded Filter Basket
Unlike many other models of the Dolphin series, the Nautilus CC comes with a single oversized filter basket. This basket traps debris up to 90 microns in size, resulting in near crystal-clear pool water at the end of the day.
The basket is accessible from the top of the robot by opening a latch; this makes removing and cleaning the basket as simple as operating the robot.
However, if you’d like to have even cleaner pool water, then consider picking up the ultra-fine (50 microns) filter (sold separately). Keep in mind that this unit has a single filter basket so you’ll need to swap between the two.
Programmable Weekly Scheduler
As you can imagine, a weekly scheduler makes owning a robotic pool cleaner even more convenient than it already is. The Nautilus CC’s basic programmable schedulers lets you choose one of three cleaning times: daily, every two days, or every third day.
Feel free to choose whichever you think will keep your pool as spotless while using as little power as possible. Don’t worry too much about energy costs; according to Maytronics, running the Nautilus only costs five cents to operate for every 60 minutes.
No Smartphone Connectivity
In terms of control convenience, the programmable scheduler is all you have. That, and the control module where you can send instructions (start, stop) to the robot from the edge of your pool. The Nautilus CC is not compatible with the Dolphin smartphone app via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi so what you get is what you get.Related Dolphin Robotic Pool Cleaner Articles
