Colzer 70 Pints Portable Dehumidifier Review

There are several very good reasons why over-humidity can be troublesome. Apart from just making it extremely uncomfortable to stay indoors, humidity promotes mold growth, which, if left unattended, can end up causing some pretty devastating damage to our lungs. Plus, dust mites and other microscopic organisms thrive in moist environments, so if the mugginess doesn’t get to you, perhaps bug bites and rashes will.

Colzer 70 Pints Portable Dehumidifier Review

It’s pretty safe to say that every home should have a dehumidifier, especially for those living in particularly humid places on the planet. In this article, we’re going to determine whether the Colzer’s 70-pint dehumidifier is worth the investment. Spoiler alert: it is!

Portability

The label “portable” can mean a lot of things to different people. In the case of the Colzer, portability refers to its set of casters that allow it to glide seamlessly across smooth floors, its lightweight design that’s easy to carry up and down steps, and its relatively compact size for easy placement.

All three of these things combined make for a pretty handy portable dehumidifier. Best of all, the smaller footprint of the Colzer doesn’t translate into weak performance, as you’ll see in the following point.

Colzer 70 Pints Portable Dehumidifier

4,000-square-foot Capacity

What sort of portable dehumidifier works optimally in large 4,000-square-foot rooms? Not many, and this is what makes this unit so unique. The motor and fan working in tandem can move copious amounts of humid air in and out of the device to condense every moisture particle into easily disposed droplets of water.

70 PPD Dehumidifying Performance

So we’ve established that the portable Colzer works well in spacious rooms, but how much water can it snatch out of the air? A surprising amount considering the unit’s small profile. This device is designed to condense up to 70 pints of water per day (PPD) to drop the humidity levels in homes and single rooms by a significant amount in hardly any time at all.

The biggest issue you’ll have is making sure the water basin doesn’t overflow, unless, of course, the Colzer has a drain port.

Colzer 70 Pints

Continuous Drain

It does! The 70-pint Colzer has a drain port located at the back of the unit where the included 6.6-foot long hose connects. Sadly, the unit doesn’t come with a built-in pump to send water flying out vertically through windows or sinks from the ground. If you decide to use the continuous drain port, you might want to set the unit on a small table to allow the pipe to run more easily through a slightly opened window.

Auto-Shutoff without Drain

If your home’s windows are too high up, it’s not the end of the world. The Colzer has its 9-1/2-pint water bucket to collect every droplet of moisture the coils condense. Admittedly, emptying the small water bucket multiple times a day can be frustrating, but without a pumping system inside of the dehumidifier, that’s your only draining option.

The good news is that the Colzer, upon sensing a full water bucket, will automatically shut off to prevent moisture from damaging hardwood floors and soaking carpets.

Comprehensive Controls

The smart control panel located on the front of the unit is easy to read and even easier to use. Features of the control panel include humidity control settings, a humidistat, fan-speed buttons, a 24-hour timer function, and a water bucket alarm.

Auto-Defrost

This dehumidifier works by cooling an evaporator coil to a cold enough temperature that any moisture particles that pass around it will instantly become condensed and fall into the water bucket/flow through the drain port.

When the coils become too chilled, ice crystals can form around it, dropping its condensing ability by several pints per day. To overcome this issue, Colzer installed an auto-defrost feature which heats the coils, melting and removing any ice formations.

Colzer Portable Dehumidifier

Two Modes: Dehumidifier and Drier

What we find to be the most impressive feature of the dehumidifier is its two different modes: dehumidifying and drying. On rainy days when you can’t hang laundry to dry, simply leave your piles of sopping wet clothes in front of the Colzer.

On drier mode, the fan works overtime by bringing in heavier moisture particles from surrounding objects and condensing them. Granted, it can take several hours of constant work to dry a pair of jeans, but it’s better than nothing!

Verdict

The more we tried the Colzer 70-pint Portable Dehumidifier, the more convinced we became that this dehumidifier can offer a ton of benefits to users across the world.

The 70-PPD capacity in rooms as large as 4,000 square feet is impressive, to say the least, but the auto-defrost and drier function were truly stunning. Overall, this portable dehumidifier is an excellent tool that would benefit any household or place of business.
